Attractions Within One Hour
There is so much to see and do in Gros Morne National Park. Make The Candlelight your headquarters for a few days and prepare for an unforgettable experience! We’re located in the heart of Rocky Harbour, and Rocky Harbour is the heart of Gros Morne National Park. You can see the famous Lobster Cove Head Lighthouse (shown above) from our back deck. If you want to take closer look, it’s just a five minute drive.
Below, you will find some of our favourite attractions. Let us know if you’re a hiker, amateur geologist or nature lover. We can make some suggestions for places you won’t want to miss.
10 Minute Drive
Stop at Jenniex House for one of the best views in the park, overlooking Bonne Bay and the Tablelands. Visit the Bonne Bay Marine station for a closer look at the underwater life in Western Newfoundland. Take the water taxi to Woody Point. Take the Bonne Bay Boat Tour to see spectacular scenery and if you are lucky, a whale or two.
1 Hour Drive
It’s a one hour drive from Rocky Harbour to The Tablelands, but every mile is spectacular. Visit the Interpretation Centre near Woody Point. Hike the Tablelands Trail. It’s one of only a handful of areas on the planet where the earth’s mantle has been pushed up to the surface. Continue your day trip with the 20 minute drive to Trout River at the very southern end of the park.
Gros Morne Theatre Festival
40 Minute Drive to Cow Head
Theatre Newfoundland Labrador presents the Gros Morne Theatre Festival every summer in Cow Head. Shows include traditional theatre and dinner theatre. We highly recommend taking in a show when you are in Western Newfoundland. It’s a good idea to book your tickets as soon as possible before you come to Newfoundland. Many of the shows sell out months in advance.
